My Story

Read more continued:

I became a mother at the tender age of 21 and that life-changing event, along with navigating my way in a bustling city in crisis, was super challenging. However, I was excited about my prospective future and all the bountiful opportunities awaiting me.  I bided my time and was steadfast in pursuing my dreams. Along the way, I had another beautiful baby girl. While my girls were wonderful blessings, I faced many challenges, which unfortunately included my divorce and that of my parents. Nevertheless, I was intent on realizing the “American dream” and did all I could to achieve this elusive goal.  But what exactly was I pursuing? Well, for one thing, I knew I had to finish my college education, which was usurped by the arrival of my beautiful babies. Talk about a dream deferred. Ironically, my oldest daughter accomnplished the career I was aspiring to when I got pregnant with her in College.

Being a young mom fueled my desire to accomplish my dreams. I knew that there was no time to rest easy and postpone my goals. I had two daughters to take care of and it was important for me to be a positive role model. I had to demonstrate to them that no matter how many curve balls life throws their way, they cannot only survive, but they can also thrive and become successful, if they stay committed and persevere.

For well over 10 years I pursued my education, while working full-time and being a mom. This was no easy feat. However, I had the love and support of my family and close friends. I also sought the assistance of others through mentorship and coaching.  We didn’t call them life coaches back then but that is exactly who they were. My unfailing accountability partners. The role they have played in my life over the years has been instrumental in helping me to accomplish my dreams. They stood steadfast in supporting me during the difficult times and held me accountable when I felt like giving up.

Accountability is my greatest strength, both personally and professionally and this makes me a great accountability partner. I have earned three college degrees, including a Masters’ Degree in Business Administration and raised two phenomenal and accomplished women. I have risen through the ranks at the organization where I have worked for over 22 years, from support roles to professional ones.  I am extremely proud of my accomplishments so far and consistently pursue the desires of my heart.

The importance of having the right life coach has not been lost on me and this experience has fueled my desire to also become a life coach to help others.  I coach through the lens of empathy.  I believe that empathy should be the bedrock of our spirit and at the forefront of everything we do. People come to me because I offer a safe space where they feel supported and understood.

Ultimately, I want my legacy to personify, strength, tenacity, integrity and forthrightness. I hope when I am no longer in the physical world, those left behind who knew or experienced me would say that I exemplified what it meant to be a “good” human being.
